Monday 23rd March 2020

Hello Year Five and families,

Well, this is a rather strange time for us all and I sincerely hope that you are keeping well. I will miss seeing you face to face in school but this doesn't mean that the learning has to stop! We will be giving you plenty of work to keep you busy.

If you go to our Year Five class page, you will see that I've made folders for Monday to Wednesday. Inside each folder there is a section for Maths, English and Science. I've uploaded some work in each section. This is mainly in the form of worksheets. If you can print these out that would be great, however if you have no access to a printer I have been mindful of this and selected activities that you can easily do with pen and paper whilst looking at the screen. Most of the activities are differentiated one star, two stars or three stars. I know that this is a format that you guys are used to using in school, so select the challenge as you like! The answers for each of the activities are also attached so that you can self- assess. You can use this opportunity to be very grown up and use the internet and other sources to research any errors you may make. I've made sure that the activities set follow on from what we have covered so far in school so you will have already had some demonstration of the skills!

Ok so Monday...

English

I've set you a SPaG test to complete. This one is NOT differentiated so everyone complete the same test please. As I have said above, you may want to do a little research on any areas of development you may have. BBC Bitesize is great for this!

There's also some spelling activities. There's quite a few, mainly for you to correct spelling errors etc. You may want to do some of these each day and spread throughout the week. It's quite a lot for one sitting!

There's also a reading comprehension about European landmarks. Let's also work on that general knowledge! :)

Maths

I know you love fractions! :)

I've set a task about equivalent fractions. Again look for the stars at the bottom of the pages to choose your challenge. There's a PowerPoint for you to look at too. You may also find this link useful: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zsxhfg8/articles/zwjwgdm

I've also set you an arithmetic test. We've done these in school before so I know you will be familiar with its format. Remember to use the answers at the back to mark your work and research anything you need to!

Science

Reading comprehension all about the sun :) and please try and go outside and get some sun and fresh air where possible.

A suggested timetable for the day:

9:00- 9:30 Practise spellings using worksheets provided. Don't forget SpellingFrame- it's an excellent, free resource that you should always be using regularly at home.

9:30- 10:30 European Landmarks comprehension

10:30- 10:45 Break. Go outside and get some fresh air if possible!

10:45- 11:00 TT Rockstars

11:00- 12:00 Arithmetic Test

12:00- 1:00 Lunch

1:00- 2:00 Sun reading comprehension

2:00- 3:00 Equivalent Fractions work

You are such a hardworking class and I know that you guys will really try your best with the work that has been set. Take care! I will be sending another message out to you tomorrow! :)
