Summer term has begun!

Monday 20th April 2020

Good Morning Year One!

I hope you have all had a wonderful Easter holiday. It was a very sunny couple of weeks and I know that I enjoyed spending time in my garden and I hope you all did too! Today is a very different and strange start to a new term but we need to keep smiling, keep working hard and look forward to being back at school all together.

Activities for the day! – Phonics – Can you find the ‘au’ sound on your sound chart? What is the action? Can you write a list of words using the ‘au’ sound? On the class handouts page, I have uploaded an activity for you to complete. Can you read all the words containing the ‘au’ sound and write down all the words that are real and all the words that are not real (nonsense words).

This week BBC Bitesize is setting up daily lessons on their website. For each subject, there is a lesson a day. There are videos to help you and plenty of activities for you to complete. There are also guidance notes for parents too.

To access this you need to visit the BBC Bitesize website -

Then you need to click on the ‘daily lessons’ tab and then on our year group ‘Year 1’.

All the activities are dated so you can see which activities are for which day. I will still be setting some activities on Purple Mash too. English – My Favourite Story (BBC Bitesize) In this lesson, you will be exploring your favourite story, looking at different genres and making a prediction from a title. Remember a prediction means you take a sensible guess! Watch the videos on the website for this lesson and complete the activities. Maths – Counting on and back in 1s up to 50 (BBC Bitesize) This lesson is using Power Maths resources which we use in school for Maths. There are videos for you to watch and activities for you to complete. I have also uploaded the activities and the guidance notes for parents to the class handouts section, however the videos can only be accessed from the BBC Bitesize website. Art – Farm Painting (Purple Mash) Our topic this term is ‘Farm to Fork’. This involves learning all about how food is grown and its journey to become the food we then eat. To launch our topic, I have set you a 2do on Purple Mash to complete. Your task is to use the painting tools to create a farm picture. What might you find on a farm? Talk to your adult about the different things you might find? Can you find a picture of a farm on the internet or in a book to help you?

I hope you enjoy completing the activities for today. It looks like it is going to be a lovely sunny day so please make sure you spend some time in your garden in the fresh air, if you can.

Have a lovely day!
